Role of Geriatric generation in Upbringing of Nxt Generation...... Earlier,concept of Joint big extended Families was the concept.During Festivals or any Functions, Funerals, Long Summer Vacations......everyone would gather at one place. This concept of large family gatherings not only brought everyone under one roof.This led to each one knowing the other,interaction of views,opinions and knowledge would happen between different generations, mindsets - Traditional, conservative and Liberals with Revolutionary minds.......all under one roof. Yes,leading to commotion, arguments and fights too. But in all this commotion, the interaction between the Geriatric with the youth and young minds.....led to sharing, teaching and understanding each other. The Geriatric would pass on values,traditions and culture to the next generation. This kept our Heritage alive for generations. The Geriatrics shared their experiences of Life to the young temperamental minds....which calmed them,taught them to be perspective, patient and tolerant. In return,the new generation updated the Old generation with current trends and technology to be adapted for convenience. My Husband and myself belong to the Sandwich generation....who have enjoyed Joint Family and experienced the space and freedom of Nuclear Family. We both have been very fortunate to spend lot of our growing years with our grandparents. Our Grandparents mentored us,moulded our personalities and influenced our thoughts. My Ajji took care of me during Childhood The age when our mind is like a Sponge...absorbing everything around us Ajji used to narrate stories from Indian Mythology .She would recite verses from Bhagwad Geeta and explain the meaning. Let me share with you ,Friends....the beauty and greatness of Hinduism. Early morning we get up.....there is Shloka praying to all 4 directions around us....and ask permission of Mother Earth before we keep our feet down." कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मी.........." Numerous such Shlokas for every routine in life. Prayers to Sun God for blessing us with Light.... Circumbulating around the Tulsi Vrindavan as Tulsi plant is Kalpataru meaning every part of Tulsi plant has benefits...... Ajji taught me Discipline, sincerity and dedication towards anything and everything I did in life. On the other hand Ajja was a teetotaller and financial expert. Ajja used to show me how important it was to learn right saving and investing methods....even more important than earning. He used to say" It's not how much you earn ....but how much you invest .....which decides your future life"...... So so true Financial knowledge needs to be taught since childhood. I consider myself very fortunate to be around my Ajja and Ajji....who not only taught me about Traditions, Culture,Customs......instilled right values.....but also guiding me for a better future. Today, the concept of Space,Privacy,Freedom is drawing us away from loved ones. Their concern is interpreted as Interference. Their thoughts are seen as rudimentary and backdated....irrelevant to modernity. Dear Friends, Both Geriatrics and Next Generation..... Have patience and Tolerance towards each other. Interaction between the 2 generation is very important for a better Society tomorrow. Dear Geriatrics, instead of withdrawing yourself from Surrounding.....do try to spend quality time with next generation You will learn new things of Current Trends......which will bring you out of Depression and Loneliness...... At same time,you can teach the next generation who are tomorrow going to be Citizens and Leaders of Society.....Values,Culture, Traditions, Calmness,Tolerance and Understanding....... The Society and Family both, for a healthy survivance ,sustenance and amicability......of all members.....relationships.....mentality.....thoughts.....temperaments.........
