Emotional Maturity
Emotional Maturity.
In school,I participated in many Debate competitions.
I loved these competitions more when it was a team participation .
I preferred Team Debate over Individual Debating Competitions.
In Team debates, all of us with our assigned Teacher would meet in evening, the Group leader would choose The Opener who introduced the Team,Topic and Whether they represented the Affirmative team or Opposing Team.
The Middle Order.
Last would be The Closer, who summarized the Entire Debate and also would put forth the key points against the other Team.
After many participations,I became in Senior class ,the Closer.
Later,I preferred always being a part of Opposing Team especially in topics which weighed more on the Affirmative side.
Debate Competition helps in clarity of thoughts .It develops in a person to put forth their opinions on a subject, argue with the Opposing side calmly but with authority even if the balance is weighing more on the other side.
This Blog is not about Debate competition.
This Blog is about Emotional Maturity of 2 people who are in a Conversation.
Many a times, when 2 people are in a conversation with diverse opinions on a subject,
many times it ends with ego fights, raised voices, heated arguments and personal attacks.
The end result is absolutely no conclusion and at times even breaks relationship.
If both people are equally strong headed and opinionated, then the conversation starts with angry outbursts and mudslinging.Unfortunately at times in verbal or physical abuse.
Don't we see these scenes today in workplaces,on streets, airports, public places....and in many homes.
But if one of them,is submissive, then to avoid a scene,a clash,or any serious outcome, that person shuts down and allows the aggressive other person come strongly.
Result is the submissive person always shuts down, and accepts defeat .One day, this person shuts down permanently.
When voice is forced to keep quiet, the person goes into a cocoon forever.
Both incidents are not healthy for a relationship to grow in long years.
Here,relationship could be anything- Parent- Child,Siblings, Friends,Teacher- Student Workplace,Marriage......
Emotional Maturity is very important for healthy Relationship between 2 individuals.
An Emotionally Mature person is opinionated but same time respects the others' opinions even if conflicting.
Emotionally mature person firmly but in a calm composed voice puts forth own views.Same time listens calmly without agitation conflicting views.
Emotionally mature person stays quiet if other end is heated and aggressive. But doesn't shut down nor withdraws forever. When the person in front calms down, views are put forth with Maturity.
But if the person in front is Emotionally immature, then never waste time nor energy in making that person understand your view point because such people are rigid and aggressive.
Emotionally immature people feel they are always right .They make no efforts nor show inclination to correct themselves. They never accept nor apologize if wrong.
Emotional Maturity is key to improvise ourselves to make ourselves a finer personality.
In Debate Competition, I learnt to listen and understand the opposition more than myself expressing my views aggressively.
As a Professional, and an Anaesthesiologist, extracting personal details out of strangers is a very important aspect .Same time, getting my patients follow my strict Anaesthesia protocols is vital for smooth procedures and safe outcomes.
Many a times,I have to interact with people having conflicting ideas and view points.
Emotional Maturity.......
My Debate Competitions taught me and years of practice developed in me...
It helped me in my Professional and Personal life a lot.
