22nd September was Birth Anniversary of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil.He was Founder of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha.This was a trust based in Satara.It ran many schools and colleges for grassroots. My school Modern School,Sector7,Vashi Navi Mumbai was started by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha.I have been in this school from LKG till end. My batch of 10th std has been together since LKG age 3yrs. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil was inspired by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shahu Maharajji . It was Shahu Maharaj who motivated young Bhaurao a small village boy born in Kolhapur in a very poor family to pursue education. Bhauraoji then got involved in imparting education to grassroots and spread awareness of education in every village of Maharashtra. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha under patronage of ShahuMaharaj ji was started in Satara.Many schools,colleges and degree colleges were started all over Maharashtra for benefit of grassroots. Ganesh festival is celebrated widely all over Maharashtra and Karnataka. Pre Independence, BalGangadhar Tilakji started Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava in Pune through which public could be gathered for spreading idea of Independent Bharat. Sarvajanik Ganesh Pandals started in every lane and huge gathering of public irrespective of caste,religion, color,language was seen in these Pandals. Huge Ganesh Idols are seen today.Theme of every Pandal is interesting and different. Public throng eagerly for darshan.Some go Pandal hopping. kids go hunting for fun to participate in various activities which take place in each Pandal.and obviously eating the tasty midas distributed there. As a kid,the Sector 7,Vashi Ganpati Pandal was an attraction. Every Ganeshotsava, we kids would visit the constructed Pandals curious to know the theme that respective year. September 15,Friday,2023,BEST had their Non A/C Double Decker Bus have it's last journey on Mumbai roads.we all Mumbaikars bid a tearful goodbye to a nostalgic trip in their childhood favorite BEST Red colored Double Decker Bus. My College days,12th std classes,and entire 2 yrs in Nair hospital during my Anaesthesia Post graduation days....2 buses....Route 66 and 69...had Double Decker BEST buses. Sitting on the top berth in the front seats...the windows overlooking the beautiful roads of Mumbai....as a kid,I would feel " I am Queen of Mumbai". The long wide footboard thr Double Decker bus had.....During college days,it was thrill jumping onto that wide footboard with Bus just starting to move. Sewagram Diaries Part 2 Dr TriptiGalgali 92B. Every Degree College- Any Field has Cultural Fest for students. In my time,1990s... IIT B had Mood Indigo....KEM,Mumbai had Malhar. MGIMS, Sewagram had fest twice a year. Ganesh and Annual Gathering. Ganesh was during Ganeshotsava.One Final MBBS year batch would be in charge.and performing batch would be Fresher batch. Both batches would be enthusiastic and energetic for obvious reasons. This Cultural fest would be held in Auditorium. Dance,Drama and most importantly Sargam. Annual Gathering- This Cultural Fest had Sports- Handball for girls,Cricket and volleyball for boys. Debate- during my time,Engineering college of Sewagram too had participated. MGIMS, Sewagram was started by Dr Sushila Nayar in 1969 when she was the Union Health Minister.Badi Behenji as she was fondly called,had started Kasturba Hospital on behest of Bapuji in Sewagram.Later,a medical college got attached to the hospital. I got admission to MGIMS in 1992 after clearing all India enterance exam conducted by KHS( Kasturba Health Society). The uniqueness of MGIMS is the college follows Gandhian principles right since 1969 till date. Staff and students have to wear Khadi. There is a 15 day Orientation Program for all students in first few days of their admission into MBBS course.The college adopts neighboring villages ,and each batch has to take care of community health of the respective adopted village. My 1992 Batch had adopted Suklibai.For 4 and half years of MBBS we paid monthly visit to Suklibai village. About that I will write another day.
