Big Screen Stories
Big Screen Nostalgia.
I am love watching movies. But am not kinda Screen buff.
When I was a kid,my father an ardent Big Screen buff...would take me along to watch English movies in Greater Mumbai.
We would travel all the way from Vashi ,Navi Mumbai to watch a movie.
Eros, New Empire, Lido......traveling the Harbor route for English movies
Gaiety and Satyam once for some Hindi movie ( Don't remember the names)
More than the Big Screen, Bigger than Life Movie experience...as a kid Caramalised Popcorn Jumbo Pack was the excitement .
One day,Chota Chetan was released. It was exhilarating and apalling moment when the big Bad Villain shoved the Shovel almost close to my nose....The 3D experience.
School took us to the only Triplet Theatre( Meghdoit,Meghraj,Meghana) just started in Vashi for Bal Shivaji( Movie on Shivaji).
Big Screen became the Stress Buster in Medical College.Every post exam Stress was relieved by Govinda Movies .The small theatres in Wardha seemed irrelevant by the hilarious dialogues and raunchy songs of the Hindi movies.( I cringe at them today😲🫣😕)
Adulthood got busy with the professional and personal commitments.
At the same time,Big Theatres got replaced by Multiplex and Small Screen viewing.
The Screens became small....
The Pop Corn Pack bigger.....
The ambience chic and posh....
A/ C and Pushback cushioned seats.....
But the excitement and Paisa Vasool exhilarating moments when Rajinikant tossed his cigarette and sunglasses and the crowd would whistle and dance in the Theatres with Big Screens humming Side Big Fans.......was another level.....
Not to miss the at times treat of Oily Samosas and Cold Drink along with the Pop Corns.
Covid Pandemic shut the movie halls.
Movies got released on OTT platforms.
People got Home Theatres installed at their houses. But the Big Screen, ecstatic crowd seems a Nostalgia now.
I no longer go to Theatres today.
Just few months back ,my daughter forced me to a Multiplex to watch some English movie. It was Surreal experience as first time in my life.....Just 2 of us in the whole Theatre watching a 2 hr movie. ....
Scary 😨 but more than the Movie....excitement was watching around an empty Theatre.
Today's Generation finds it intriguing when Husband and myself discuss the Then Famous Big Theatres animatedly.
Big Screen experience is only in memories.
Theatres getting converted into Big Malls housing Multiplexes.
Movies reduced from 3 and half hours to just 1 and half to 2 hours.....
No Paisa Vasool Rajinikanth moments ..
No whistling frantic front benches in Stall....
No excitement dancing moments in the alley in the middle of the movie.....
No mouthing and shouting of Dialogues with the Angry Hero.....
No clapping when our Star fights back in the end......
No Life Size posters of Amitabh Bacchan.....
Block Buster experience of Single Big Screen Cinemas.....seems History.
Memories......only.
