Accent and Mannerism

 Accent and Mannerism.

A 32y IT professional working in Reddit in US posted that he and his Indian colleagues were asked not to speak in meetings as nobody could understand their accent .The typical Indian mannerisms of hand and facial expressions were ridiculed and embarrassed by Co workers there.

I saw recently a Marathi movie" Gavthi".A B.E Computer Engineer from rural Maharashtra when sought jobs in Corporate setups in Mumbai was ridiculed by all in interviews because of his Vernacular Accent.

Each person whether in our own country or in Abroad ...Globally.....has an Accent and Mannerisms ,developed by the environment he/ she is grown up in.

That's natural human tendency.

The Accent and Mannerism remain within us forever even if we leave the environment.

South Indians have their own Accent.

North Indians their own.

West India....Maharashtra or Gujrat or Rajasthan....

East....a Bengali or Oriya has their own Accent.

So does a person from North East.

Why we Indians....

Every Asian ...Japanese or Chinese....

Even the so called Developed and Educated Americans...Australians.....and our Previous Rulers The British themselves have a peculiar Accent....

And so is their Mannerism.

But if we become judgemental about the Accent and Mannerism of a person.....

Overlooking the Talent and Skills....

The situation becomes Embarrassing, Rude and Depressing.

We all have faced this distinguishment...

We all have been ridiculed for our Accent and Mannerism.

We all have been embarrassed by people around us for our Pronunciation of words.

Inspite if our own personal experiences on this issue.....we all behave similar with others.

Trolling,Making reels, Poking fun,Ridicule,Jeer,Rag,embarass.....just for Accent and Manerism.

We are unmindful of sentiments of the person involved.

The movie " Gavthi" depicts the frustration and anger of the Young Engineer who had come to Mumbai with high dreams and hopes of success after clearing B.E Computer Engineering with Distinction.

His skills of Computer and Coding were completely overlooked by the Corporate world due to his Vernacular Accent and Mannerism.

At one point, the Frustration leads to Depression when he fails to get any job.He is forced to accept a peon's job in the IT industry to sustain himself in the Mumbai city.

A chance incident gives him opportunity to show his Coding talents which opens all doors to success. He then goes back to his grassroot village and creates a platform for other youths there to showcase their talents and groom to face the outside world.

Dear Friends,

We need to adapt and bring some change in ourselves to be accepted in the new environment we enter.

But Our Accent and Mannerism remain forever ever in us however far and however hard we go away from our roots.
