How Big is The Heart
How big is the Heart?
How big is The Heart?
If taken in medical language, bigger the size of The Heart, grave is the condition.
But metaphorically, The Heart is considered the generosity of a person.
As kids, all cousins during vacations would be sent to that house....which had a Big Heart .
Those days,we all would be sent to my Mother's Eldest sister,Sudha Maushi,we all called her " Aai" means Mother in Marathi.
Aai's house was in Bandra. She lived in Government Colony ,quarters for the Govt of Maharashtra employees. My Kaka was having a Government job and Aai was homemaker.
Her home was not very big.Small Government quarters.
But Aai had a very Big Heart. She herself had a big family. She would happily take care of us additional small kids( almost 9 to 10 of us during summer holidays). Also she took all of us out for small picnics to Kamala Nehru Park or Gateway of India with packed homemade food and snacks.Aai in her busy household chores would find time play with us ,stitch beautiful clothes for our dolls, tell us stories.
Night time ,all of us would sleep in the drawing room on the Big long Gudars ( Carpet) spread on the floor.
Life was simple.nothing frivolous. Lifelong memories cherished forever.
At times,my youngest Maushi,Mother's younger sister, would take us to her home in Pune.
Her husband, Vasant Kaka, had a Maruti 800.Can you imagine 13 to 15 of us cousins would climb into Kaka's car and enjoy long drives.Space small...cramped...each one on other's laps....some in the dicky opened....
But the fun and laughter remains forever in our memory....Fondly reminiscing even today.
As years passed,we all kids grew up.All have secured well paying jobs.Affluent lives and lifestyles.
Today,houses are big.
Bigger are our cars.
But our children don't come together like us anymore.
They don't like cramped spaces....nor do they adjust nor compromise.
No floor carpets to sleep....no terrace nights to gaze stars.
No short picnics....
No Maruti 800 with 13 kids inside.....
Unthinkable and Inconvenient...Utterly Uncomfortable.
Today,our houses have many rooms.
Walls separate all of us.
Our Lifestyles are big....
Our Status bigger.
But our Hearts.....our Ego....
???????
How big !!!!
