MBBS exam

 MBBS, exams,results.....

MBBS is a very lengthy course.4 and half years Followed by 1 year of compulsory Internship.

The first year has only 3 subjects Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.

Dhurandhar.Part 1.

They are a medical student 's first experience and exposure to human body and understanding the mechanisms inside.

The 1st internal exam....is an eye opener as to how vast, deep and difficult the course and subjects are. for every medical student.

Throughout their lives, these students have been toppers and always seen their scores 💯....Perfect or near Perfect.

I was shocked to see " Single Digit" score out of 100....in the 1st interval exam taken in the 3rd month of our joining the course by the Anatomy department.

Luckily, I hadn't gone out on a duck.

Remorse,Ashamed,Angry....I had written so much....Yet.....

I searched other's scores.....

Heaved a sigh!

All were single digit except one girl.....

The result of this internal exam reached home.

A very intelligent child....scoring Perfect always....suddenly crashes to " Single Digit".....

My alarmed Father landed up in front of Professor, Anatomy department.

He showed the whole class performance and assured my father that his daughter was intelligent and she will do well throughout .

True to my Professor 's words ,I secured First Class in all 3 years of MBBS. A good score those days.

Second MBBS was comparatively easy and less stressful.

Third and Final MBBS exams even today are stressful and Strenuous.

In 1996..we had Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics,Obstetrics, Gynaecology,Community Medicine, Ophthalmology and ENT.....all at one go.....The Grand Finale to the long course.

Dhrundahar Part 2.

So much vast.....

So much to remember.....

So less time....

Winters are  very chilly in Sewagram.

Sitting in the room ,for almost 3 months of exam leave.....covered with blankets....and reading so many books....it seemed an endless ordeal.

The exams were conducted initially theory....100 marks ....2 parts each subject of Medicine, Surgery,  Community Medicine and Obst / Gyn.

Paeds 100

ENT 50

Ophthalmology 50.

That itself went for 1 month.

Then came the Viva Voce

I was amongst the last roll numbers as my name was " T"

Every day,I left my room at 8.30am.

My Grand Viva Voce ended at 8pm.

Exhausting and lots of Anxiety.

One Long Case.2 Short Cases.Spotters

X RAYS,Instruments.

Grand Viva with Internal Examiner....and

Last....with External Examiners...one nearby Nagpur and other outside University.

The guffaws made due to exhaustion and Stress......after coming out ....added to Anxiety " Will I pass after answering stupid?"

That moment was anxious.

But today....a hearty laugh during Reunions.....

No,I will not share my guffaws...

I don't call them blunders.....as the answers were partially right.I am sure the Examiners might have had a hearty laugh that day. They too had been at the other side of the viva table before.

In 1996,there was no Digitalisation.

Results came in newspapers of Nagpur and later sent to respective College.

I sent my Roll number to an Acquaintance in Nagpur.

He checked the newspapers. He didn't find my Roll number.

Despair of failing....1st time in life.

I called up my college office.

I had actually secured 63%....First Class.

Relief.....

MBBS.....the long course was finally over.

31st December 1996....New Year Eve night....I was traveling to Sewagram....beaming with joy.

In 1992,I was filling my admission forms to join MBBS in MGIMS, Sewagram.

On 1st January, 1997,.....I was reporting to begin my Internship as

"Dr Tripti Kurbet. "

MBBS is long,grueling course.

Every exam in this course is tough.

The 1st year is stressful because it's first time a medical student is facing such type of examination. Very different from earlier exams....especially the Viva Voce facing External Examiners.

The Final year MBBS exams for any generation....and every medical student....is strenuous because multiple subjects .Exhausting as the duration of exam is long and hectic.

Anxious because....one has to have indepth knowledge, memory and information about previous year subjects, current subjects and recent advances which the students have only read and not seen .

Vast and deep.

Final MBBS ....the entire process is ever memorable......
