Women Anaesthesiologist in 2025
Woman Anaesthesiologist in 2025
Anaesthesia has been evolving with years.
Tryst to make Surgery safer and Pain relief a priority, has motivated and inspired advanced technology, skills and newer pharmacological molecules are being brought into practice.
Anaesthesia which was once revolving around only Gases....Ether,Chloroform, Nitrous oxide( Laughing gas making people smile and endure procedures)..... is now flooded with choices and options of Variety of techniques, technologies and drugs.
No longer is an Anaesthesiologist restricted to only General Surgery or nickname Gas Doctor......
Today,Anaesthesia has entered into all fields of Medicine.
Anaesthesiologist no longer only behind mask and scrubs.
From Regional Anaesthesia, Peripheral Anaesthesia, Day care Anaesthesia, Critical care Medicine, Pain Palliative care Medicine.....Labor Analgesia.....apart from General Anaesthesia.
Along with the Field of Anaesthesia,...Anaesthetist has now progressed to being Anaesthesiologist.
Anaesthesia has been a branch which from its initial days has seen Women being active.
Dr Claudia Potter was First Lady Anaesthetist from US between 1881 to 1970.
In India,Dr Miss Rupa Bai Furdoonji was First Qualified Anaesthetist between 1889 to 1917 who worked in Afzalgunz hospital and Zenana Hospital in Hyderabad.
Today,in 2025.....Women Anaesthesiologist are active in practicing Anaesthesia in all forms - General Anaesthesia, Critical care,Pain Palliative care.Women Anaesthesiologist are well represented in all Institutions, Private practioners,Corporate setups, Government establishments....either equal or at times more than Male Anaesthesiologist.
There is no gender discrimination or pay disparities in field of Anaesthesia.
Many Corporate hospitals today and Established Institutions today have provided safe environment for Women Anaesthesiologist especially during Night Duties. Many even have Creche facilities for the dependent small kids.
Inspite of all this, even 2025,though many Girls do opt for Anaesthesia for Post graduation, and some do practice Anaesthesia.....
Women Anaesthesiologist are not well represented in all branches of Anaesthesia and all setups of Anaesthesiology.
Long working hours, Emmergency at night,Night duty in Critical Care units....
Here Women Anaesthesiologist are either handful or in some setups absent.
Nurturing and Caring Responsibility falls solely on Women in India.
Family members do help and support.
But the guilt of Motherhood forces many young Anaesthesiologists to dropout from Professional life.
Even if they do join workforce, long hours and Night Emmergencies become cumbersome and starts affecting the Mental and Physical health.
Situations in 2025 have become more difficult due to nuclear families, rising costs and modern lifestyles.
How can we bring more women stay back into workforce?
How can we help young Female Anaesthesiologist balance Family and Work life without getting stressed, physically and mentally?
I feel outlook towards Nurturing and Caring Responsibility needs to change.
But Nature plays significant role.We can't change that.
Then,what can we revolutionize?????
Mindests.
Mindsets of Society.
Mindests of Women first.
If a Woman wills, with her strength and determination, she can break mountains and pave her own path.
If more women join workforce,
If more women represent in all setups and fields.....
Then mindsets of Society at home and workplace will obviously change.
Acceptance and Respect will follow automatically.
A cry out for every Young Woman Anaesthesiologist and a Working Mother,
Don't Quit.
Gather strength, support,demand for help....
Today, life may seem difficult....
But stay focused......
Tomorrow will be a beautiful day.
