May 1st
May 1st.
Labor Day.
Some memories of childhood.
70s -80s was Industrial era .
Labor unions.
Strikes and Fight between the Capitalist Bourgeois and Industrial workers.
Labor Leaders/ Kaamgaar Neta.
So many Movies depicted this struggle.....so many Actors became superstars playing the Messiah Role.
We all remember this so well.
But nobody talks nor bothers about that Middle Class worker who was at post of Manager managing the Workers.....or the Engineer who managed the machines.
The plight of this Middle Class worker.....
The Agricultural Tenancy Act in 1964,saw many middle class lose their small pieces of agricultural land as the tenant for 10yrs or more was legally granted the agricultural land.
The middle class in interiors of India, found Education and Degree the source of income.Facing dire Poverty but ego prevents them to beg or ask for help......nor anyone helping or standing with them to fight.....
No power,no Money,no Laws nor benefits to support...
This class moved to cities.....their kids working hard and intelligence helped them secure Educational Degrees to improve their life.
One such family was my Parents,Uncles
All struggled and fought Poverty, their intelligence and hard work, took them to Premier Intitutes, studied on Scholarship....
Became Engineers and Managers in Industries.
But the Labor Strikes and Political vested interests.......shut many Industries.
This Class of Middle Class Engineers and Managers got overlooked.
No Labor Laws to support them......
No Benefits from Government.....
No Money power to sustain them the backlash of the never ending Labor Strikes which brought many Industries on stand still....
Nor did their Ego and Education allow them to beg on streets......
How did this Middle Class Worker....who didn't do Labor manually.....
But Mentally......
Survive these tough times?????
70s -80s didn't have many Private Conglomerates then.....nor IT revolution.
Either the Middle Class had to fight to acquire Government jobs( against Reservations and Quotas)..... or Face Labor Union Strikes in Industries.
The only Weapon this Middle Class Labor had was Education Degree.
That was the only way this Class knew to live their Life.....
That is what they struggled their entire life to give to their children.
I have seen my both parents working Day and Night, sacrifice so many things.....struggle, Face Hardships ......to provide Education to my brother and me.
It's Education and Parents hard work which helped we Children to rise above Struggles of Middle Class today.
The Middle Class Laborer has before and after....always remained in the Middle....
Struggling alone....with no support from anyone and anything.
This May 1st,Labor Day.....
I know none of us are willing to fight For this Middle Class Laborer......
At least,we can acknowledge the contributions and struggles of this Middle Class Labor .......
There are many like me who can relate.
