Life Beyond Scrubs
LIFE BEYOND SCRUBS
DR TRIPTI M GALGALI
ANAESTHESIOLOGIST, HUBLI.
I knock out people for a Living.
In bargain,
I forgot to make a " Life" for myself out of Living.
I am a freelance Private Anaesthesia practitioner.I donned The Scrubs when I joined as Postgraduate in Anaesthesia department at BYL Nair Charitable hospital, Mumbai,in 1998.
In 2003,I started my Freelance private Anaesthesia practice in Hubli after marriage.
Since 1998,
Scrubs became my second skin.
Operation Theatre and ICU became My Home.
Anaesthesia became my Life.
Being an Anaesthesiologist became my Identity.
Managing long hours of Hospital shifts in Operation Theatre and even longer hours in ICU,along with Family responsibilities....
Life turned into a Treadmill- ever speeding and never ending.
Rat Race of Life-
What began as a student studying hard to secure an All India Rank to grab MBBS seat and then a Post graduate degree,
Youth and beginning of Adulthood got me running around seeking a secure job as an Anaesthesiologist.....
Entire Adulthood is being spent in
Rozi, Roti,Kapda aur Makaan.
Fulfilling family responsibilities, making life comfortable, education of children and securing future.
I got so busy making a Living....
I completely forgot that
There is more to Life Beyond Scrubs.
Childhood saw me being passionate about DanceSinging,Writing, Elocution.
This Passion got lost somewhere in Adulthood.
Few years back,an invitation to perform a Lavani at Anaesthesia CME in Hubli, revived back my love for Dancing.
I not only restarted Dancing regularly but also started making some time to learn new dance forms from You Tube amidst my busy Anaesthesia practice.
A blog on Sewagram Diaries- My MBBS memories got shared on WhatsApp Alumnii group. It got appreciated and encouraged my to rekindle my passion for writing. Sitting in Operation Theatre for long Surgical cases ,got me writing blogs and triptigalgali@blogspot .com gave me recognition.
Dear Friends,
Life is short and unpredictable.
Work Commitments can not be avoided as they pay our bills and ensure a comfortable life.
But there is more to do to make our Life meaningful.
The key is to not prioritise our schedules
But.....
SCHEDULE OUR PRIORITIES.
How can we lead a Life Beyond our Scrubs?????
Fitness and Yoga-
Both need to be on top of our priorities.
Agreed,a busy Professional career gives us little time and very less energy to follow any Fitness regime sincerely.
But we must devote few minutes of our life towards Fitness daily- Brisk walking, Swimming, Cycling, Bodyweight training....anything.
Yoga and Meditation not only strengthens our body physically but also helps to be calm and composed especially in stressful challenging situations.
Hobbies-
Hobbies of childhood forgotten and left behind amidst the race of life, needs to be rekindled.
Learning New Hobbies.
Learning New Skills.
It rejuvenates and relaxes mind.
Learning should never stop.
Age is never a barrier for learning any day ,any time.
IKIGAI, The Japanese secret for longevity and good quality of Life, advocates learning something new every day.
Travel-
Traveling brings us closer to nature, helps us meet people from diverse backgrounds and interact with different cultures and cuisines.
Spiritualism
It brings us closer to self, mind and divinity.
It calms us and improves mind and emotional Maturity.
Philanthropy
Extending one hand out to help somebody in need holds more value than joining both hands to pray.
Contribute to society monetary for a cause or relief.
Even better if we physically contribute through our skills and knowledge.
Family and Friends.
In our hectic work schedules and commitments,we tend to neglect our family and friends.
We must not forget that when we were nobody and during our most vulnerable situations, it was the unconditional love and support of our family and close friends which has helped us reach to what we are today.....
Spend some time with aged parents.
Some group activities with Spouse, Children and Siblings.
Reunions with Friends and extended family.
Helps in maintaining old bonds and connections.
Life Beyond Scrubs
It is different for different people.
In our fast paced life, finding some time to devote towards non professional schedule is difficult.
But one must make a concious effort to pursue the other side of Life Beyond Scrubs.
